The 1st South
Carolina Rangers
Ranger Reports
Join the 1st South Carolina Rangers!
So many
people outside of South Carolina want to join the good fight that we have
created an organization just for them, the 1st South Carolina Rangers!
The Rangers, you will remember from your history, exercise an independent
command; that is, a ranger is a guerrilla fighter who takes his opportunities
where he finds them, generally behind enemy lines. The Gray Ghost, Major John
Mosby, served as a ranger, as did John Hunt Morgan, John McNeil, Bill Quantrill,
and even Frank and Jesse James!
Since so many good conservative Americans live in an area where the League
of the South is not active, and in the north, behind enemy lines as it were, we
have established an organization to which they can belong.
The Rangers will have their own section in the South Carolina Patriot, the
South Carolina League of the South quarterly periodical, and on the SC League's
website. As a Ranger you will receive a full color certificate and a membership
card. Plus, you will be entered on the South Carolina League mailing list and
receive all the mailings that regular members receive.
Rangers will be encouraged to conduct all the activities (letter writing,
protests, radio interviews, media relations and more) that regular members
participate in. The difference in a Ranger and regular South Carolina member
will be only where they live!
Come join the 1st South Carolina Rangers. For only $40.00 you will receive your
own certificate of membership, our current quarterly publication, and you will
be placed on the mailing list for all future mailings.
Now is the time, come join the fight!
Send your check of $40.00, payable to The South Carolina League of the South,
SCLoS, P O Box 24014, Columbia, SC 29224.
We encourage you to send in reports of who you are and what is happening in
your part of the world. This page is for the 1st South Carolina Rangers and we
need your input.

We
seek a free and prosperous South Carolina
Republic, our own nation founded on private
property, free association, fair trade, sound money, low
taxes, equal justice before the law, secure borders, and
armed and vigilant neutrality. It will be a self–governing
State and local communities invoking the favor and guidance
of Almighty God, with a bold, self-confident civilization
based on European roots.
Establishing Southern Cultural centers throughout the State
will facilitate cultural change and provide a model for
economic freedom. These centers will sell Southern
merchandise, and present authors, poets and artisans to the
community and local media.
Special events including celebrations, musicals and plays
will promote Southern culture. Economic and political
changes will occur through personal commitment and political
action. Our goals are:
1.Implement God’s laws as the acceptable standard of
behavior adopting a Biblical world view.
2.
Eliminate all federal government control and influence in
South Carolina
3.
Reduce the size and scope of all levels of
government from state, county, and towns to the
absolute minimum to maintain law and order.
4.
Promote and institute Southern culture relying
on
Biblical truth.

Somali Flag?
By Michael Bonafield of
Minneapolis, Minnesota
I was driving in Edina, a Minneapolis suburb, recently
when a car full of Somalis pulled up next to me at a light (we have a lot of
Somali refugees here, attracted, no doubt, by our temperate climate). A woman
rolled down her window and asked, "Excuse, please, sir, but where did you get
Somali flag?"
I just stared at her for a moment, not comprehending. On my back bumper I
had a First National Confederate Flag and South Carolina's Bonnie Blue Flag,
plus a USAA sticker.
When I replied that I didn't have a Somali flag on my car, the woman
insisted I did. Then it dawned on me. The Bonnie Blue and Somali flags are
identical. Unsure how detailed a reply I should make, I simply said:
"The flag isn't Somali, but a flag from American history carried by people
who fought for their independence."
"Ah," the woman said. "We fight for our independence too. Those people in
America's history were good people."
And off they drove, waiving.
Yes, they were good people.

Greetings To Dixie from
the Heart of Europe, Austria!
I am a 26 years old citizen of Austria (I say Austrian by birth, but
southern by the grace of god ). Since I was a little kid I've always dreamed of
Dixie, I always like it when I heard Elvis sing Dixie or heard the bonnie blue
flag, and I looked out for Christmas not only because of the fest itself but
also because every year on Christmas eve the would air "Gone with the wind"
on TV (they still do so today, and I watched it also this year).
Well years went by and my first visits in the USA started, first it was
"only" a holiday in Florida, but my second one was already going from Miami up
to Charleston, Spartanburg, Laurens, and back to Miami.
You cant imagine how I felt when I took the tour to Fort Sumter, tears came
in my eyes as I saw the flag flying there. Oh I forgot to mention, that I was
there 2 years ago, in June, when the boycott of SC by the NAACP started. I
already was reading southern heritage homepages and literature. I read articles
on
www.palmetto.org,
and there I found mail addresses of Congress members and of the Chamber of
Commerce, I wrote to all of them, and got only two replies, really dont remember
the name, one was for keeping the flag but already told me that it probably will
come down to the monument, and the other one, who was from the Chamber of
Commerce ( or tourism ) replied to my mail (I wrote that I am tourist and coming
BECAUSE of the Southern heritage) and wrote just like a scalawag, ....
Anyway
I really was impressed by fort Sumter and Charleston in general, also liked the
Boone Hall Plantation. Well last year I was in New Orleans, visiting the
confederate museum, and was in Biloxi at Jefferson Davis house near the beach it
was wonderful.
Well now my friends I have
decided to get involved in this struggle, there may be not much I can do, but
the first thing I want is to join the Friends of Forrest if possible. Can
someone provide me with an email contact for this association?
I also look forward to get in
contact with any southerner who loves Dixie as much as I do!
With a whistling "Bonnie Blue
Flag" on my lips , and with best regards

Confederate Representation at
Union Ceremony
By George Forsythe
Today (28 April 2002), representatives of various heritage groups celebrated the
birthday of Ulysses S Grant at his tomb in New York City.
Representing the South was the re-enactment unit, 57th VA, Co. B, commanded by
Ray Pickett, a descendant of General George Pickett, and by the piper to the SC
League of the South, George Forsythe. Union troops marched in to Rakes of
Mallow, but when the Confederates began marching in, the tune switched to The
Bonnie Blue. During the musical portion of the event, the captive audience was
again subjected to equal treatment of both sides on the bagpipes, as Aura Lee
was followed by Lorena, and Yankee Doodle was trumped by Dixie! Yee haah!!
A fine time was had by all, and the keynote speaker, who attempted to convince
the crowd that taxes had nothing to do with the conflict was buttonholed
afterwards by yours truly and advised to read Charles Adams' book, "When in the
Course of Human Events." We shall see if his opinion gets changed when presented
with factual history.

By George Forsythe, the Empire State
“Run the Blockage”
A very successful "Run The Blockade" multi-directional motorcade converged at
Maurice's BBQ in Columbia, SC on Saturday, 13 April 2002. Floridians, led by Jim
Lear, North Carolinians, Georgians, and groups of South Carolinians had already
staked out seating when Larry Sally, Coordinator of the SCLoS Midlands District
arrived with my wife and me.
Through the miracle of modern technology, the A.P. Hill Chapter of the Virginia
LoS was able to give us a "heads up" when they reached the Two Notch exit of
I-20, and the whole crew lined up to welcome them as they pulled into the
parking lot. What a magnificent sight - all those pickup trucks, flying
Confederate flags! As they got out of their trucks, they heard "Carry Me Back To
Ol' Virginny" and various other pieces of forbidden Confederate music on the
bagpipes, and they lined up to shake hands with th welcoming committee lineup.
Inside, as we feasted on SC's favorite barbecue, Larry Salley officially
welcomed everyone with the observation that 140 years ago SC came to the aid of
VA, and now VA was returning the favor. The Chairman of the SCLoS spoke about
the need of the LoS to get its message to the middle class, which is being
robbed by the rich to support the ever-increasing "lower class." He spoke
cogently and eloquently, addressing the issues we must resolve in order to
convince our natural allies in the middle class. The issues I specifically
recall were: Social Security, taxation and spending policies, criminal justice
and enforcement, preserving military forces for the purpose of protecting OUR
homes and families rather than everyone we like around the world, the Second
Amendment rights, and education. I believe that he also addressed immigration.
His words were a wake-up call, but they echoed the sentiment of R. Gordon
Thornton's book "The Southern Nation," which speaks positively of the ability of
the South to support itself in the manner outlined in the original US
Constitution and the Bible. As the meeting was drawing to a close, Julie Scott
and her mother and sister, arrived after having attended the Georgia Memorial
Service at Stone Mountain. Julie said that that event was also a success, but
that they were not as fortunate with the weather as South Carolina.
Following the meeting, most of the vehicles formed a huge motorcade to the State
House to pay respects to the Confederate Soldier Monument and the re-located and
more historically-accurate Battle Flag, and then to take photos.
All present agreed that the event was a well-conceived and organized assemblage
of dedicated patriots and that the new friendships formed would serve as the
basis of future cooperation. Special mention must also be made of Jim Phelps,
who conceived the idea for the event and Johnny Hostler of the AP Hill Chapter
for e-mail and cell phone organization of Virginia's whole group as well as
keeping me up to speed on the latest plan.

A View from Above “the Line”
By Rev Charles H Roberts, PhD
I know a place where there is very little crime, where people frequently
leave their cars unlocked and where people are friendly and courteous. As
Southerners we are not terribly shocked to learn that there still such places
left in these United States, but some may well be shocked to know that the
aforementioned description is not that of some sleepy, bucolic, Southern burgh!
Rather it is a very accurate description of where I currently live: upstate
New York! I live in a small town roughly 25 miles north of Albany, the New York
state capital. Relocating here from Sumter, South Carolina, where I had
previously been pastor of a church, my family and I had some misgivings about
moving “up North.”
Those misgivings quickly vanished as we were welcomed by people in our
neighborhood, even as the moving van was unloading. People we’d never seen
before came to the front door with fruit baskets and other welcome gifts.
Of course, a few miles down the road, life is rather different. So it is in
any big city.
I have lived here in Saratoga County for almost six years now and can count
one hand the number of murders in this county during that time. By contrast,
when I visit the web site of The State newspaper (Columbia, SC…my hometown), I
can count almost that many murders on one hand within two months. The same holds
true of the upcountry areas of Greenville-Spartanburg.
My point in making these observations from “above the (Mason-Dixon) Line” is
that we of the League of the South are finding as much or even more support for
our ideas in many small-town Northern hamlets than in the larger Southern
cities, and that we should not overlook that fact.
I am probably not surprising any of our readership by telling you that the
ideals and beliefs that nurtured our Southern culture in the pre-War era have
all but vanished under the withering onslaught of the dominate media culture and
the government indoctrination centers known as “the public schools.”
Interestingly, the values that we in the League hold dear are similarly
revered by those in many home-school and Christian-school communities in many
parts of these United States outside the South.
The common denominator? Biblical Christianity. The belief that all of
the Bible applies to all of Life.
The only hope of our nation is a return to the Biblical worldview of our
forebears, and this includes men like RL Dabney and James Henley Thornwell
and men like Patrick Henry, Theodore Roosevelt, and early Puritan and
Pilgrim settlers of New England.
The ideals we strive to promote and maintain were admirably set forth in the
Winter 2002 edition of the SC Patriot in the article, “Preliminary Thoughts on a
Christian Republic” by Rev C. Richard Barbare.
To show how far these United States have fallen from the Christian republic
established by our forefathers, consider these comments from an article that ran
in a local paper where I live.
The Gazette Newspaper of Schenectady, New York, in its March 10
edition, ran a front page story about a Muslim girl, a senior in an Albany high
school, who had enlisted in the Air Force Reserves.
The paper noted that the girl was “proud to be an American,” and notes that
she said, “I love why America was made—[for the] purpose of having equality.”
One hardly knows whether to laugh or cry over such a statement, but in light
of recent events, it is perhaps more appropriate to weep.
One of the great scholars and theologians of the 20th Century,
the late RJ Rushdoony once said, “The Constitution will not save this country.”
In my estimation, the League of the South must steadfastly maintain a
strident commitment to a strong, uncompromising Biblical faith that takes the
authority of the Word of God seriously. We can have no hope for victory if we do
not.
Gunshows Oulawed!
By Sarge Booker, Tujunga CA,
Hhbooker2@aol.com
You still have gunshows in
South Carolina? Gunshows are being closed down here in southern California by
city and county councils. Great Western Gunshow was told to leave Pomona,
California and they went to Las Vegas, Nevada where they had next to no
business. Los Angeles County Fairgrounds (FairPlex) cannot house weapons
anymore, so they lose several millions of dollars as motels and other businesses
made money on travelers and Fairplex also lost millions in revenue as well.
There appears to be no slow down in guns purchased outside of California by gang
members.
California legislatures have
asked the States of Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico,
Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming to close down their gunshows as well in
the spirit of safer streets and to outlaw ownership of assault guns, even single
shot rifles that look like M-16s.
The reason why gunshows
are being shut down is the claim that gunshows promote neo-nazi hate crimes as
many participants of these show wear 3rd Reich military and political uniforms
with swastikas!
Not to mention Confederate
flags, which minorities claim belong to the Ku Klux Klan and other hate mongers,
according to the Democratic Party here in southern California. “Protocols of the
Learned Elders of Zion” is also reputedly sold at gunshows by neo-nazi
sympathizers, according to the Anti-Defamation League of B'Nai B'Rith and the
Jewish Defense League spokespersons.
Second Amendment foes will
use any lie to take guns out of our hands!
Please Sue the NAACP
By Alan Linsky,
floridamoneyman@earthlink.net
Dear Attorney General Condon,
The latest threats by the NAACP to interfere with visitors to your state at rest
areas, or any where else, is unacceptable and reprehensible to say the least.
They have become a morally bankrupt organization and no longer command the
respect they once enjoyed. Their threats against the great state of South
Carolina, it's citizens, businesses and those that choose to visit, must not be
allowed to go unchallenged!
I trust that your office will do whatever is necessary to defend the public
interest and the well being and safety of those of us who will visit South
Carolina. Because of the continued threats by the NAACP against your state, it's
heritage and history, I will support South Carolina by visiting your state this
spring with my family. I will ask my many friends and associates to do likewise.
It is time to put an end to the disgraceful threats of the NAACP against the
sovereign and great state of South Carolina.
Pilgrimage in Alabama
By Steven Yates
According to official League of the South documents the organization aims to
“promote the independence and well being of the Southern people by all honorable
means.” This has been interpreted, by the League’s friends and enemies alike,
as a call for secession from Washington’s empire and for the formation of a
Southern Republic.
Let’s suppose, for a moment, that we actually had a Southern Republic, i.e.,
that a free South had just been handed to us on a silver platter. How this came
about, it does not matter, at least not for this exercise. The point is, for
the moment, we have a free and independent South, consisting of former states
from Texas all across Dixie and all the way up to Virginia—at least. Let’s
suppose, also, that the Washington empire—for whatever reason (perhaps it has
its hands full with other problems)—has decided to leave us alone.
Would we be able to keep our new Republic? Or would we fall into squabbling
with one another, whether over religion or even over matters entirely trivial?
Would we be able to make peace with black populations who distrust us
impulsively (having been told all their lives by their leaders that Southern
whites are a bunch of racists)? Finally, would the states cooperate in the
creation of a genuine federalism, or would we see new breakaways leading to the
new Republic’s disintegration? Would we be able to check the tendencies that
led to the rise of the empire emanating from Washington, or would we soon see
new-old forms of power-grabbing and, within a couple of generations, find
ourselves back where we started?
What I am suggesting is that creating a new Southern society would be easy. In
fact, it would not be easy—even if every countervailing force currently existing
(Washington’s armies, its bureaucrats, political correctness, opposition groups)
stepped out of our way. We must not treat the sort of enterprise we are
proposing in any kind of cavalier fashion. Our future and our children’s future
would depend on our making proper and wise choices in the present. Can we make
those choices?
One of the wisest choices we can make now is revisit and attempt to understand
what happened the first go around. After all, the United States of America was
the greatest country in history. There can be no doubt of this. That makes the
sequence of events leading up to its development most important to study
closely. And it is even more important to look closely at what went wrong—why,
as Patrick J. Buchanan would put it, the U.S.A. ceased to be a republic and
become an empire.
This is now one of my projects—however ambitious. To do research and to write
about the American founding and the American betrayal, from within a perspective
devoted to individual liberty, personal responsibility, free markets, community
autonomy and the rule of law. And to produce some speculations on what we can
do now. Among the things we can do now is realize that certain practices work,
while others don’t. Certain practices lead to a population whose members are
happy, well-adjusted and as productive as they need to be. One of the things
clearly necessary is to be in touch with our roots. We must know where we came
from and what our primary values are, so we know where we are going—and where we
don’t want to go. We must understand not just the dangers inherent in
concentrations of power, but how these dangers come to be realized in society.
And we must keep a sharp, vigilant eye on our leaders—whoever they are. (Come
to think of it, we ought to use both eyes.) Finally, and above all, we must
realize that in the end, a meaningful life is not to be had solely through
attachment to material things or by aiming at creating as much economic
prosperity as possible. There must be room for recognition of the transcendent,
and for the things that allow families and communities to remain stable.
These are the sorts of things America’s present population has not done. Our
present population is too busy watching television, driving around in SUVs,
gabbing on cell phones, etc., to be much aware of the things that are bringing
down American culture: unlimited immigration, moral relativism, advancing
technology without advancing wisdom, and an entertainment-above-everything
ethos. We have been all too willing to leave our children in the hands of the
secular state despite mounting evidence of the harm “public schools” are doing.
Finally, all too many Americans have tried to spend the past 40 years trying to
sustain a culture without reference to God. Perhaps the trajectory we have
taken—the increased crime rate, the sexual revolution, the teen pregnancies, the
fact that a Bill Clinton could get anywhere near the White House—indicates what
happens when the most influential parts of a culture abandon the transcendent,
and the rest of the population lets those in power get away with it.
In any event, these are among the things I shall be writing about during my
“pilgrimage” at the Ludwig Von Mises Institute here in Auburn, Alabama.
Hopefully, although my theses are aimed at an audience wider than Southerners,
the results will resonate with South Carolinians generally and with South
Carolina’s Leaguers in particular. If we want a free, independent and healthy
South, it is up to us to build it—and even if the Washington empire were
completely out of the picture, the task will still be the most formidable we
will ever undertake.
Steven Yates, formerly of Columbia, is Rowley Fellow at the
Ludwig Von Mises Institute where he is working on a book entitled The Paradox
of Liberty.
Honoured
By Dave Sheehan, Jackson, Louisana
Compatriots, I was honoured to be invited to join the Rangers. I find that
the troops of the League@palmetto.org do indeed intend to do more than "meet eat
and retreat." I am delighted to report that our state's (Louisiana) governor,
the Honorable Mike Foster has again signed a proclamation declaring April
Confederate History month. I understand that Foster's application to the SCV is
also pending.
I was pleased to facilitate the proclamation of my town's (Columbia) mayor,
Jim Sherman, declaring April Confederate History Month. The pride for our South
in our state and town is rising.

April 2001
Texas
By Paul Mattoon
Writing is therapeutic and I sure hope it helps, 'cuz I'm angry. I'm angered by
yet another attempt to suppress or misrepresent the Confederate flag. Just
yesterday, they hauled it down in South Carolina and now the Georgia flag
appears to be on its way out.
But, why should I feel upset? After all, our country was lost in 1865 and
we've been subjugated ever since. Come to think of it, it's probably
appropriate now that the (new south) Georgia flag has at the end of its string
of flags (although I didn't see the 1st and 2nd National flags among the
historical ones there) the Empire's flag, a fitting reminder, really, of our
true state as Southerners.
Yet with the honour that bespeaks that portion of the flag, how can I ignore the
absence of the Battle Flag from the Georgia flag? One side of me wants to
fight; the other side wants me to ignore the whole thing as irrelevant as I
remain a subjugated being.
(I need to think long-term. How to capitalise on this and probably the falling
of the Mississippi flag? 'Need to redirect my sick-to-the-stomach sentiment I
feel now into action, or at a minimum, redirected loyalty.)
Notwithstanding the NAACP's edict to eliminate Confederate symbols, fighting
this organisation reinforces a misleading message: that white Southerners hate
blacks. It's a no-win situation to get Southerners of good will on our side.
Rather, I'll ignore the misguided efforts of NAACP. The war of hate must be
replaced by the war of kindness.
Yes, I'll personally continue to re-emphasize and promote those qualities that
make me Southern: being God-fearing, noble, gentle, respectful, tasteful,
principle-driven, and a lover of liberty.
And I'll do this in my personal example over the long haul in my actions and
thoughts. Till I die whether I see my own country again or not. I will live in
my country if only in my mind.
I'll promote the notion that I am the original patriot that I am. Ardently
patriotic to the original Constitution whose beginnings supported
self-determination and local control of affairs.
I'll challenge all who hold the Empire's view or New World Order's view , but I
repeat myself. And I'll challenge those who hold such views as the aliens that
they are by promoting thought-provoking sayings that invite an inquiry to the
way I see things. This might be my ticket to discussions that can lead souls
away from the destructive affects of the Empire's thinking. Pins, hats,
bumperstickers, desk signs, and clothing with sayings that prompt a thoughtful
person of goodwill to inquire. That's what I'll do.
And all will have our current 3rd National flag affixed. This will do much to
prime the pump.
Then, the real work begins by getting truly patriotic souls together for
education and action.
Now, I feel better and more focused.
New Jersey Ranger
By Robert J Snyder, Absecon, NJ
Greetings from a Ranger in New Jersey. I am a white male, seventy-four years of
age, married, have four daughters, and several grand and great-grandchildren. I
am a WW2 veteran, serving in the South Pacific on Motor Torpedo Boats, and I am
a retired New York City police officer.
As to joining the Rangers, I do so, for what I consider important reasons. To
me, as a “Once Proud” American citizen, as well as millions finding themselves
anxious with regard to our future as a free, safe and cohesive society. Having
returned to New Jersey after living for three years in Spartanburg, SC, and
becoming even more aware of the differences in our cultures, it is my firm
opinion if we are to save for our descendants any part of the dream of our
founding fathers, it will be done from within the boundaries of the Southern,
and like minded western states.
I therefore, would like to add my voice in support of throwing off the
oppressive blanket of federal subjugation now choking any form of dissent.
We’ve already lost much of our country. Let’s fight to keep what remains. On
our own terms!
5 March 2000
Exchange with a Northern lady
By George Forsythe,
the Empire State
I responded to your earlier request for
help by sending you numerous articles explaining what I feel to be the truthful
side of the issue of the flag flying above the State House in Columbia, S.C. The
preponderence of the articles were by black intellectuals. I never heard back
from you, so I can only hope that you took the time to read the articles and
take the well-worded statements into account.
I will give you a partial answer to your
further questions.
1)
You
ask what Southern Heritage is to us. It consists of using the Bible as a
rulebook for life. This means placing God and His laws above all other entities
and rules. This means doing unto others as we would have done unto us. It means
honoring our fathers and mothers even though others would have us forget them.
It means saying "Thank you" when someone gives us a hand. It means minding our
own business and allowing others to peacefully mind their own business. It
means keeping promises. It means treating all people equally regardless of their
differences from us until they attempt to impose their beliefs on us. It
consists of defending family and homeland against invaders and other hostile
forces working to undermine the Biblical heritage and belief upon which we
founded our government. This is not in any way an exhaustive statement; it is
only a few of many guidelines that Southerners regard as "heritage."
2)
You
ask why the SCV refuses to compromise on the Confederate flag issue. First, I
refer you to my answer above. Honoring our fathers and mothers includes
honoring the morals, ethics, and beliefs which guided them in their everyday
life. There really CAN BE no compromise in that, any more than you would ask the
descendants of holocaust victims to "compromise" with Nazi persecutors.
Compromise involved both sides giving something up, but in this case the racists
in the NAACP are not giving anything up other than their extortionist demands.
They say, "You give up your sacred symbols (and the flag is only the FIRST in
their list), and we will agree not to wage economic warfare against you." Does
this sound like a compromise? No more than capitulating to any other
terrorist's demands. One cannot negotiate with terrorists, for it only
encourages the terrorist to "up the ante" because the terrorist holds the trump
card - be it a gun held to a child's head or a threat to boycott the residents
of a state which is already held in subjugation by an oppressive government.
3)
How
do I feel the rest of the United States views South Carolina as a result of the
debate over the flag? This is a question which cannot be answered in a vacuum
because the rest of the country hears only what the liberal media WANTS them to
hear. They are not involved in the day-to-day issues that confront South
Carolinians. Not much is heard by the rest of the country about how racists in
the west treat Indians (now referred to by the politically-correct but ambiguous
term, "Native Americans"). I have heard references to these people as being
"lower than 'N's (the speaker's word, not mine), and this from persons in the
military who I would never suspect of racism. So no doubt, the persons who see
South Carolina through the narrow pinhole that the liberal media opens to them
see only what the liberal media WANT them to see. The history books were
written by northern apologists who were free to re-write the truth much as
George Orwell depicts in his phenomenally-prophetic novel, 1984. "Good is bad."
"Lies are truth." The distortion is endlessly drummed into the public's mind and
like the "useful lies" of Karl Marx, and the "repeated lies" of Adolf Hitler,
the untruths eventually are accepted as truths. Having nothing but lies (such
as "The Glorious North fought to free the slaves") upon which to base their
opinions, it is remarkable that ANYONE in the rest of the country would have any
idea that there was any valid reason for Confederates to fight at all.
By the way, I am from New York.
4)
You
again ask if there is a possibility of people coming together to compromise. I
again refer you to my answers to the first two questions. Would you compromise
your veneration of your ancestors who had behaved honorably? What compromise is
offered, NO - What compromise COULD be offered that would justify the
abandonment of honoring one's ancestors? Today the politically-ascendant
"minority" politicians cut down flagpoles on privately-owned cemetery plots
because the wrong flags are to be flown from them. How do you compromise with
those who consider themselves above the law? Do you throw away the law and
become a nation of godless anarchy? Our country was FOUNDED on the principle of
religious tolerance, not centrally-mandated HATRED for those different from us.
5)
Again you persist in seeking compromise, and again I say to you there are some
beliefs that are too sacred to compromise. That is one of the reasons we fought
for independence from England. Would you compromise YOUR flag if I decided that
it offended me because it brought slaves from Africa to America and that it
therefore constitutes a racist symbol? Do not think that this is far-fetched;
in New York I hear this argument with more frequency than I hear defenses of the
Stars and Stripes. When it becomes more generally known that the KKK mandates
the presence of the Stars and Stripes at every one of its meetings, can the
re-design of that flag be far behind? Reparations are sought for descendants of
African slaves. Nowhere do we hear of other slaves now demanding reparations.
There can be no compromise with extortionists.
6)
Why
do I think the other side does not want to compromise? Why should they? There
is absolutely no reason for a side that has a virtual stranglehold on the media
and the dissemination of disinformation and which can leverage this into
political omnipotence to EVER compromise. When Georgia Tech had a 222-0 lead
over Cumberland State in the most lopsided college football game in history,
should they have COMPROMISED??? The "other side" will not compromise because
they have overwhelming advantage; we will not compromise because we hold honor
more sacred than victory.
7)
Why
do we reject a compromise that allows an official flag of the Confederacy to fly
and honorably retires the Battle Flag from the State House when the alternative
might be to lose its presence altogether? Look again at my last sentence in
reply to #6. Think of the defenders of the Alamo. They could have compromised
and saved their lives. And what would history think of them? Do you honestly
expect us to do less? And do you think that by losing this battle it will be
over? Remember, Texas came back, as did the Americans who lost virtually every
major battle to the English during the Revolution. The war will continue. The
only permanent defeat will be achieved by total annihilation of the population
of the South. Do not forget that although Ireland lost 1/4 of its population to
English oppression, it survived, and is now the ONLY one of the British Isles to
have full-fledged independence. When might imposes its will on people, their
subjugation lasts only as long as the power is enforced at the point of a gun.
Evil empires, be they Nazi, Soviet, or Federal, will fall, in time. The lust
for freedom is impossible to wipe out. Finally, let us be mindful of the fact
that as a Christian people, we daily are mindful of the example of Jesus Christ
who, KNOWING that he faced death, DID NOT SHRINK FROM IT, but freely submitted
to one of the most excruciating executions in practice at the time, DESPITE the
fact that He HAD THE POWER TO PREVENT IT! Many of us wear bracelets bearing the
inscription, "What Would Jesus Do?" Would you expect us to behave differently?
8)
After the Civil War [sic] ended did Confederate soldiers insist that Confederate
flags still fly, or did they honorably accept their loss and cease to fly
Confederate flags? This is a false dichotomy. There WAS no "Civil War", for
that would imply a struggle between two or more entities for control of the same
government. The South fought for Independence. BIG DIFFERENCE. As to whether
Confederate soldiers "insisted" or behaved "honorably" it would seem that you
postulate that insisting would have been "dishonorable" and that only acceptance
of not flying the Confederate flag would constitute "honorable" behavior. Can
you really believe that this is a valid comparison? If you would read any of
the accounts of the Reconstruction period you would understand why there were
more important issues than flying any flag. People were digging themselves out
of the burned rubble that had been their homes. They were burying their dead.
They were trying to build life anew after their life's savings had been looted.
And they were doing it DESPITE one of the most oppressive invading forces
continued to occupy their homeland and impose the most unChristian measures on
the people. And you even THINK that they would have had to abandon the flag in
order to be "honorable???"
Ma'am, I am greatly surprised at your
questions. They indicate a total unfamiliarity with the nature of the Southern
people and their attitudes and beliefs. This is further backed up by the fact
that having received an "A" for your previous essay which was presumably based,
in part, on the contributions of many of us, you could not even take the time to
send out a mass mailing saying "thank you." Further, had you really put the
effort into thoughtfully reading what was written and doing so with any intent
to draw from the writings an understanding of the people providing these
answers, you would not have even thought of asking most of your questions.
Moreover, you ask us to provide the
rationale for the other side. Would you ask holocaust survivors to rationalize
the Nazi death camps? Would you ask the American Indians to rationalize the
theft of their homelands? Think about it. Naturally, the oppressors can come
up with their own rationalizations for their misdeeds. Let them do that on their
own. Do not ask their victims to do it.
NY Ranger
After-Action Report
By George Forsythe
Yesterday a "sneak attack"
was conducted at the Pennsylvania Monument at the Gettysburg Battlefield Park. A
music and dance festival was conducted at various locations in the park, one of
which was a joint music venture at the aforementioned Pennsylvania monument.
My wife, Mary, and I arrived
at the main parking lot and immediately spotted a bunch of bluebellies putting
their instruments into a vehicle. I drove over to them and obtained information
about the time and location for the next performance which was scheduled for
6PM. I asked if they would be receptive to some Confederate music played on my
pipes. (Naturally I was wearing my Confederate Memorial Tartan kilt.) One of
their number was a little skeptical about the bagpipe, but he was overruled by
the leader, and it was agreed to let me have a few minutes. One of the members
then mentioned the "red rag of treason," which was my signal for disabusing them
of their ignorance.
I asked the man if he felt
that the patriots of the American Revolution were guilty of treason. Seeing what
would come if he answered "No," he took the other option and was embarrassed
even more. After answering "Yes," he was blindsided with my reply, "Well, then,
I guess you have no problem with treason...why do you accept it in 1776 and
condemn it less than 100 years later?"
When I followed his
dumbfounded silence with, "You really shouldn't speak such ignorance unless
you've read the Constitution," he answered, "Oh yes I do have the right under
the Constitution to say whatever I think." My response was, "Yes, but in the
interest of not embarrassing yourself in public like this, you really ought to
speak from knowledge rather than ignorance." That was the end of that
conversation.
When I showed up for the
music session, there was a group of "balladeers" from NY (upstate), and when
they mentioned "Lorena" I volunteered to play it on the pipes for them, and they
happily took me up on the offer. The group was excellent musically, and very
entertaining. I turned out that one of their best musicians gave me his card and
we jammed together after they were finished. Then we got into discussion of the
politics of the War, and it turned out that he and another of his group was in
absolute agreement with me! Unfortunately, our jamming, even though conducted
some 200 feet or so away from the bluebelly brass band, was causing some
consternation among their number, so we stopped. Bagpipes do seem to carry,
don't they? We exchanged cards and will probably try to perform together in the
future should the opportunity arise.
When it came my time to
perform during the bluebellies' session, I played about 6 or 7 of my usual
repertoire, followed by "Amazing Grace". So many of the crowd really appreciated
that one.
Oh, I almost
forgot....my great big Battle Flag hung from the bass drone of my bagpipe
throughout, and got no complaints or protests at all. There was one couple there
from Ohio (he originally from San Antonio, TX and she from Wilmington, NC) that
told me that they were going to move to SC when he retires in a year or so.
Their last name was "Silverthorn" (an American Indian name). His truck had a
"Heritage Not Hate" flag sticker on it, and he wore a T-Shirt with the Stars and
Bars and a caption of "It's a Southern Thing...You wouldn't understand."
I also had my magnetized SC
League of the South sticker on the side of the car as I drove all over the
battlefield. Not a single negative comment!
All in all, a successful SC
Ranger action!

Henry Wilson: The 20th U.S. Vice President
Natick, Massachusetts
Born in New Hampshire, he changed his name and became
a Natick citizen. A strong fighter against slavery, as well as becoming a
cobbler and a shoe factory owner, he was elected as Senator. He went to
Washington where he was elected Vice President under (slave owner) U.S. Grant.
His former house, on the westbound side of Rt. 135 is adjacent to the Northern
end of Palmer Ave., the first connector street after the Square and Indian
Burial Ground between Pond and West Central Sts. His cobbler shop at West
Central and Mill Sts. faces a shopping mall where once the oldest house in town
existed before it was demolished. This building is long overdue for
rehabilitation. (Recently the chimney was removed, and that wasn't even cleaned
up properly.) He died in office as the Vice President on Nov. 22, 1875, serving
under afore-mentioned President Grant. He is buried in Natick, Mass. His story,
however, lives today.
PUBLIC NOTICE:
Since August, we have been doing landscape and
cleanup work in Natick, Mass., at the Henry Wilson landmark at West Central
(Rte. 135) and Mill Sts., simultaneously protesting the shameful neglect of the
building at noon on Sundays. We invite all to stand with us or just say hello.
BUT WHY THE 'CONFEDERATE FLAG'?
The flags of the USA and the CSA are the same as
regards their colours. The red, for hardiness and courage. The white, for purity
and innocence. The blue, for vigilance, perseverance and justice. Yes, the
beautiful Confederate flag is proudly displayed each week as part of our
statement. Across our land and even in this town this flag is being attacked as
a symbol of Slavery, fostering racism and hatred. This is a blatant politically
correct lie. So, we have invited the NAACP to help stop the 'diss', and
participate with us in this restoration... still waiting. (I first supported
them in 1962.) Henry Wilson fought against slavery, which was born and greatly
enjoyed in the North. The War for Southern Independence (mis-named the 'Civil'
War) was fought for States' Rights- and yes, for the Constitution.
The Confederate flag stands in unity with all who are
against slavery of any kind, including an illegal 'voluntary' IRS taxation
scheme, a monetary takeover called the 'Fed', and force-feeding sugar and
fluoride to the nation. But, we digress. Slavery to Tyranny will not stand, nor
shall the neglect of this landmark for a respected public servant.
Presently the US flag flies in tattered dishonour, on
a rusted pole near a tarnished bell. The Confederate (Constitutional) Flag
proudly honours that flag too, by flying below the 'US' standard rather than at
equal height as would be proper etiquette. By bringing attention to this
situation, we simply hope to inspire young and old to learn about this place,
these flags, and our blessed citizenship under God. A nationally-historic site
needs our help. In the spirit of Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King, let us
seize the moment.
Thanks to: MetroWest Daily News, Boston
Herald and Natick TAB papers, Natick (Mass.) Historical Society, Natick
Parks and Recreation Dept., Natick Trash Collectors, and the many passing (some
stopping) citizens who have expressed support.
www.palmetto.org is an excellent source of
CSA news. A very few negative (drug-related?) tauntings have been good for a
laugh. Other well-meaning concerns about the propriety of the CSA flag are
understood, but rejected as being the result of faulty education which we all
have been exposed to. As doctors are not schooled in Nutrition, so teachers are
not always given accurate History to teach.
Contributions of money, volunteer labour and
materials will be deeply appreciated. We encourage you to call the Natick
Historical Society to donate or otherwise help take action. (508-647-4841).
$15,000 sounds like a piddling sum when considering million-dollar businesses,
homes and golf courses. That's a dollar from less than half of Natick's
population. Hmmmm! If a campaign had been started years ago, this deterioration
would not be happening.
Thank you for visiting this site. As Henry the
Cobbler would appreciate, our 'tongues' must make us speak: resolution is our
'sole' purpose. Our stand has achieved some success- work has been
started on the physical structure. May credit go to the beautiful and honourable
Confederate flag, being displayed to spark awareness of its own unique part in
our history, the present, and future. Should the work falter or stop, we shall
resume our stand. For now, may pride in the South be amplified by this for all
who love Dixie Check back again for links and updates
as we give this problem the 'boot'. Good health and much happiness to all.
