Twenty years ago, Washington Post writer, Joel Girreau wrote a book named, "The Nine Nations of North America". In that book, he traveled the continent, and opined that North America is comprised, not of the three nations of Canada, the United States, and Mexico, but of nine distinct cultures, competing economically, politically, and culturally. Included in his list are Quebec, New England, the "Rust Belt", the Breadbasket, Ecotopia, Mex-america, the Islands, and our favorite, Dixie. He describes Dixie as an emerging nation, economically powerful, politically conservative, devout and religious. The past twenty years have deepened the trend for Southern Independence. In the last four years, we have seen Governor Perry of Texas openly discuss secession. Congressman Ron Paul has spoken of the Constitutionality of secession. Our quest for independence has been joined by such diverse elements as the liberals in Vermont. Even as I write these words, Scotland debates the merits of self rule and self-government. It is inspiring to see a people, who have lived under the conqueror's yoke for a thousand years, struggle to obtain their freedom. Perhaps, with the outrages of socialized medicine, higher taxes, increasing government debt, our people will once again yearn to breathe the sweet air of freedom. Thirty years ago, as a young Marine Corps officer, I never thought that I would live to see the dissolution of the Soviet Union. That Evil Empire was reduced by the very Socialist infrastructure that our own politicians seek to insert into the American Free Enterprise. That Socialism discourages personal incentive, industry, and investment. The government of the united States is now using the proverbial credit card to pay off its credit cards. Interest on the national debt is now the single largest line item in the federal budget. The Federal Reserve is now financing the debt, by printing money that dilutes the current money supply. We will see prices on essential items continue to rise, and the value of the dollar will continue to fall. The Hamiltonian dream of a central bank has been realized, and real wealth is being transferred from those that create it, to those who create the currency. The united States stands on the precipice. It will dissolve, not like Rome, with the barbarians at the gates, but as a result of the greed, sloth, and immorality of its people. By adopting Socialism, we follow in the footsteps of the Soviet Union, Greece, France, and the failed Communist states. The people of that once great nation are more interested in the bread and circus of sports, television, and entertainment than their own personal liberty. Our yankee neighbors derisively refer to the South as the "Bible Belt". Therein lies our strength and our salvation. Faith (what some people call religion) drives culture. As the yankee culture becomes more secularly human (a religion they share with Communism) and statist, we Southrons must dedicate ourselves and focus our lives to be obedient to the God that gives freedom. Freedom is God's gift to an obedient people. Two months ago, we celebrated the Resurrection of His Son. Join with me in calling for a revival in Dixie, like the ones that shaped our people in the 1860's. We will live to see the dissolution of America. It is more important that we guide a revival of the Southern people, and lead them back to their cultural roots of piety, obedience to God, and individual liberty. If we are successful, the South will rise again, and we shall do so under our own banner.

We live in an exciting time. We are reliving history. Two thousand years ago, the great Roman lawyer, Cicero, stood before the Roman Senate, decrying the fall of the Republic. Rome had become decadent, debt ridden, feeding her citizens with bread and circus to divert their attention from the evils of their government. Today, we live in the same land as Cicero. Our government is trillions of dollars in debt. The populace is fanatical about sports. As long as the average American can have a cold beer and watch football, he is happy. Homosexuality is now openly accepted in our armed services. Divorce rates are over 50%. Real unemployment is over 20%. One dollar does not buy what a real silver dime bought in my childhood. We may have a great military, but someone is launching ICBM's off California's coast. Our government says that they are illusions. The united States have fallen. This union is not working. The South is, and has always been, a nation. We are a people. We are politically, economically, and culturally distinct. Southrons, Black and White, share more in common with each other than we do with the liberal northeastern yankee. In the words of Nathan Bedford Forrest, "...we are of one land, are we not brothers?" We also share the fact that there are hard times a' coming. Food prices have risen 20% in the last year. Actually, food is a necessity, and the real value of the dollar has fallen 20% in the last year. To paraphrase my friend Tom Moore, if you dilute your whiskey with water, it loses its "therapeutic affects". That is what happens when government prints money with no foundation. That is how the government plans on paying off its trillions of dollars of debt. When they print money, the value of the paper in your pocket that says "Federal Reserve Note" goes down. As Southrons, we need to take care of each other. I urge you to store enough food, ammo, silver, gold and essentials to maintain your family and friends for a year. Become as self sufficient as possible. Reload your own ammo. Grow a garden. Remember that real wealth, whether it is gold, silver, tomatoes or catfish, comes from the earth, and it is a blessing from God. Be thankful of it, and praise Him.

Grace be with you,

Lourie Salley

Learning the Wrong Lessons From History

Summer 2010

Conservatives recognize that something is very wrong with America. Recently, talk show host, Glenn Beck held a rally in front of the Lincoln Memorial to "Restore Honor" to America. Numerous groups, including the Tea Party, the 9/12 group, and others are concentrating their efforts to "save America". Although well-intentioned, and certainly emotionally satisfying, these organizations are flawed for one basic reason. America does not want to be saved.

Fifteen years ago, Canadian journalist, Joel Girreau noted in his book, The Nine Nations of North America, the United States, Canada, and Mexico are 9 nations, divided into 3 countries. A nation is defined its culture, economics, and politics. in this regard, the United States is being torn asunder by competing cultural, economic and political influences that are larger than any government or organisation can control. Unimpeded illegal immigration threatens to tear much of the South-west into an independent Hispanic nation. La Raza, the leading Hispanic rights organisation, is openly calling for an independent Hispanic State. The cultural, economic, and political differences between the liberal North-east and the South make single nationhood impossible.

Jefferson Davis once wrote that "the cause for which we contend is certain to assert itself in another time, and in another form". His words were prophetic world wide. In our generation alone, we have seen the disintegration of the Soviet Union, Scotland gain its own Parliament, and the birth of dozens of independent nations. The real issue is, "what is the application to the United States?"

Russian economist and professor, Igor Penarin, forecasts the breakup of the United States within this generation. Although we may disagree with his boundaries, his arguments are sound.

The War against Southern Independence should not be viewed in a vacuum. The causes and effects of that conflict shape modern events. Culturally, the North and South have always been hostile. The New England States were settled by Puritans, who were followers of Oliver Cromwell. The South was initially settled by Cavaliers, the followers of King Charles, and later shaped by the Scots-Irish. According to Greg Singer's book, A Theological Interpretation of American History, beginning in the 1820's, the North began to turn away from Christianity, and began to embrace Unitarianism, Transcendentalism, and Rationalism. In a sense, they became the first American secular humanists. They believe that man is a perfectible creature, and that government can perfect man through education, taxation, regulation, and intervention. In contrast, throughout the years, the South became a more Christian, Bible based culture. Like Milton and John Locke, Southerners saw man as a fallen, sinful creature, who is redeemed only through grace. As such, government is a necessary evil, whose powers must be limited, lest it become tyrannical.

The rise of Socialism in America, the increasingly burdensome tax load, and the economic pressures of massive unemployment and out of control spending are only the first fractures in the wall of the American Empire. Many leading economic analysts, including Peter Schiff, predict an economic collapse within months. They further predict that the coming collapse will last for years. In the wake of the self-destruction of the united States, there remains hope, and promise for the future. Republics have historically degenerated into democracies. In a democracy, the people realize that they can vote themselves rich from the public treasury. In Democracy, the God that Failed, economist Hans Hoppe describes this phenomenon. After democracies collapse, the people cry for a strong man to save them. Historically, this has been the path to tyranny. The only way to break this cycle, says Hoppe, is through secession.

The efforts to "save America" are as pointless as trying to pump water from the Titanic as she slipped beneath the waves. The only way for our culture, and our civilization to survive is through the natural right of secession. Only when Southerners recognize that we are a distinct people and culture, can we embrace the logical path to our future.
