Abbeville’s Olde South Christmas

3-5 December

“Come to Abbeville and step back into time.”

The Abbeville Merchants’ Association with the aid of the Abbeville Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the second Olde South Christmas with the theme, “Come to Abbeville and step back into time”.  War for Southern Independence re-enactors will be walking about the town and will have encampments on both Secession Hill and the grounds of the Burt/Stark House.  There is planned a candlelight tour of their campsites on Saturday night 4 December and perhaps on Friday 3 December.  During the candlelight tour the re-enactors will perform various skits of the period.  The festivities will begin with the lighting of the town’s Christmas tree on the square at 6:30 PM followed with the singing of Christmas carols by various performers, all in period costumes.

Saturday morning 4 December will begin with a parade of the re-enactors into the square from the Burt/Stark House at 10:00 AM.  During the day there will be roving carolers in period dress singing seasonal songs and Christmas carols.  We also hope to have a few distinguish guests from that period walking about town.  You will have to come visit us to find out who these quests will be. Many if not most merchants will be dressed in period dress and most merchants will be serving period refreshments free of charge to their customers.  There will be carriages providing rides for a fee on both Saturday and Sunday.

If you are a re-enactor, come join us at the campgrounds on Secession Hill or the Burt/Stark House.  If you are not a re-enactor, we invite you to don your period clothes and join in the festivities.  Even if you have no period clothes, we hope that; you will come to Abbeville during the first weekend in December and “Step back into time” with us.
