Go Fly A Kite

Dear Friends,

Nearly a year has passed since I had the pleasure of reading the submission of the gentleman calling him self "The Traveller" where he told of observing a glorious kite trailing several colours above Folly Beach, SC, which is slightly south of Charleston.

I ventured there myself recently to partake of the friendly atmosphere of the coast, try my hand at fishing and dining on the wonderful fare offered at the pier and other fine establishments.  Soon after arriving I turned my gaze skyward and to my pleasure noted a colourful display of not one, but two kites floating proudly above the waves.

The second kite carried a full sized Southern Naval Commissioning Pennant flowing beautifully in the wind!  The stars were not yet affixed, but the owner assured me they soon will be.  The display was most spectacular and I trust the photos will do them justice.

I noted the public was enjoying the display and, as was the case as reported last year, several stopped by to ask questions about this colour or that.  All were happy to hear the full history of each and what they represented to the past, present and future struggle to preserve or recapture their personal liberty.  They were, in the course of the presentation, given many points to consider concerning the sovereignty of their respective countries (states) within this republic.

Often a single inquisitive soul would be joined by as many as five others, all hungry for the origin of the beautiful and heart warming, yet, sadly unfamiliar colours above them.

The most notable conversation was with a lady from the Balkans, one well aware of the need for a people to be ever prepared to fight for liberty when necessary and maintain the spirit and seed when opposition of tyranny must take a passive form for a time.

"When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. When the government fears the people, there is liberty."

Go Fly a Kite

While visiting Folly Beach (Charleston County) recently, I had the pleasure of observing a kite with a number of colours flying above the waters. The included photograph shows the colours to be: the Moultrie flag, the Gadsden flag, the Bonnie Blue, the South Carolina Sovereignty flag, the South Carolina flag, and Big Red (or the Citadel flag).

The owner was much encouraged by the interest afforded him and his display, enjoying several conversations with both the knowledgeable and curious alike and further, by the individual who, in the course of the conversation, explained to his New York friend that the South was an occupied territory.

The New Yorker was surprised, though pleased, to learn so much truth in such a short time, particularly of Lincoln's conduct during the War, specifically turning the United States army against the civilian population of his home state of New York. The New Yorker was encouraged to verify all facts to his own satisfaction and visit the League web site.

All were made aware of the League and invited to join; even the New Yorker, provided, as he was told, he could count himself a Copperhead.

I will close with the inscription on Calhoun's monument in Charleston:

"Truth, Honor, The Constitution".
